The year was 1862 and it set off a construction project “Nothing Like It in the World”. * In Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a small steel fabricating company has a contract with the Union Pacific Railroad Company to make fish plates which are used to tie two rail ends together when building the track. A lot of people who work there have recently emigrated from other countries. They have come to this new country with the hope they would be able to seek the promise of freedom and prosperity. One, a young woman, Lily Donaldson, is an indentured servant, from England, works at the boarding house. Another is a woman, Mary Olsen from Sweden, who works at the same place and is the mother of two boys, one of whom is part of the fabricating company’s child labor work force. Her husband, Oscar is loading dock foreman at the fabricating plant. Shawn Kelly is an Irish immigrant who works a steel press that makes the fish plates. His work partner, Jedidiah Washington is a former slave. Shawn’s friend, Mike, came with him from Ireland and is a “Dandy” who gambles, drinks and is quite the ladies man. The lifestyle he lives brings him to a deadly end. Shawn picks up the pieces and seizes the chance to make a break from the grip of the “COMPANY STORE”. In doing so they launch themselves into one of life’s great adventures! A clever plan to outwit Union Pacific finds them stowaways on a high ball express freight train headed into the great unknown West, where love blossoms, Indian battles occur and tragedy strikes its cruel blow. They become survivors to the end, and a new beginning into this new great country becomes a reality!
